English Georgian Style Monteith Bowl | Corbell & Company | Circa 1950’s

This stunning mid-century reproduction of a traditional English 'Monteith' style bowl of Georgian style with Rococo flourishes, and features vertical fluting around the body, decorative scroll work in relief beneath the scalloped top rim, two opposing hinged lion's head masks with drop-rings as the handles and a gadrooned pedestal foot base. Taking center position on the front side of the bowl is a vacant oval cartouche surrounded by a scroll design

// The Monteith-style bowl dates back to the 17th century - used as punch bowl for filling with ice and used to keep glasses cold. //

Dimensions: 5.85 in W (handle to handle) x 5.15 in D x 3.75 in H.

Weight: 26.75 oz  | heavy piece

Marks found on the bowl underside consist of a 3-turreted castle and old English letters that appear to represent "E P M" (meaning 'electroplated metal'). The marks identify the maker as Corbell & Company, a silver company founded in England which later became an American silver company.

Very good vintage condition, a few minor areas of wear to the plated finish.
